by Erica McClurkinin Exercise, Goals0 commentstags: behavior change, change, consistency, execution, goal setting, habits, taking action
I’m fascinated by habit formation and behavior change, and I’ve just started reading Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg, PhD. Fogg makes a convincing case in the early part of the book (I’m not even 50 pages in) that behavior equals motivation plus ability plus a prompt, and that to focus on motivation alone as the reason why we have success or failure when working to create behavior change is missing part of the equation.

Reserving time for fitness always seems so much easier on long weekends (and on vacations). At the beginning of any holiday period, I am always eager to fill my calendar with fun things as well as all of the unfinished projects that I’ve been working on.

Have you ever had the mail pile up? And then the pile is out of control and it keeps growing? You know that if you would just sort through it, you’d feel better because it would be dealt with…but you also know that now it’s going to take you three hours to go through it, and so you keep procrastinating. No? (Just me?) Okay…

In the spirit of celebrating milestones, I’ve put together a list of 15 things K and I learned by taking daily walks together over the past five months. Avocados are one of my favorite fruits. For the past few months, I have been making a lot of guacamole. Lately, I’ve been getting better and better at telling when my avocados are ripe. Despite making more guacamole in the past few months than I ever thought I would in such a short time, I still make mistakes and cut into one every so often when it’s not yet ripe. I’ve also missed the prime moment of ripeness and cut into many (many!) avocados that are starting to go bad or are not salvageable. At. All. (Yuck.)
by Erica McClurkinin Exercise, Goals0 commentstags: execution, goal setting, taking action
In my last post, I wrote about setting intentions and how powerful this process can be. I stand by this belief, though there is a second piece required in order to move forward: action. Intentions without actions are useless. In fact, intentions without action may not truly be intentions at all. Let this sink in for a moment. You can set intentions all day long, but if you recognize an opportunity and fail to act, you haven’t moved, changed, or grown as a result of setting the intention. Execution is where the true magic happens.
