Despite many of the large May races being canceled or postponed, I was overjoyed to see so many in the running community complete smaller, local races this past weekend. Waking up at 5am yesterday to support our running group was a breeze for this night owl because the prize was seeing many of our runners run their race. (Race day is one of a few special reasons for getting up early with a smile on my face and a very happy heart.)

Exercise is one of those activities that gives you an outsized return on your investment. When you spend time exercising, you experience benefits that are not necessarily contained in or confined to the time you are exercising.

K and I took Scooter, our cat, to the vet for a check-up visit last Friday. Scooter never enjoys the experience, but this time he seemed to be more upset than usual.

Being Present

Every other December, I schedule and attend a class on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and administering first aid. Though I could have opted for an online course this year, I decided that I’d rather take the in-person class if I could.

Tapping into Pure Joy

Gravity-assisted sprints (e.g., running down hills as fast as possible) are the best. There was a time when I used to fly down hills on Rollerblades, semi-protected by the helmet, wrist guards, and knee/elbow pads. My sister and I would blade through the Metroparks, taking the flat curves easily and being careful to stay upright when navigating down hills.
