Try Something New

August 02, 2021 by Erica McClurkin in Exercise, Featured, Three Tips tags: fitness approach, goal setting

Happy August! Is it me, or does it feel like it was early June just a moment ago? (I’m confident that I will feel this way about early August in a couple of months, so I’ll just chalk it up to my perception of time.)

Here are today’s three actionable tips:

  1. Try something new.
    — If you are thinking about exploring a new activity, give it a shot. From basketball to rock climbing, there are so many ways to move. You’ll never know if you’ll enjoy an activity if you don’t try it, and trying new activities on a regular basis is good for your brain as well as for expanding your potential exercise options.
  2. Explore your local parks.
    — If you need a change in scenery, consider exploring your local parks. You might find a trail away from the road (and any traffic) that is perfect for a walk, bike ride, or run. If you are lucky, you might also find other equipment that can be used for resistance training such as an anchored bench, hanging rings, or a mounted bar. Some parks have fitness trails with various exercise stations, too.
  3. Define your own success.
    — You get to decide what makes sense for you. If you are striving to build muscle, great! If you are aiming to run faster, awesome! If you want to focus on exercising consistently, fantastic! Whether we’re talking about fitness or not, it’s your life. Work toward fitness (or other) goals that are meaningful to you and your journey will be worthwhile.
