Making Hydrating a Habitby Erica McClurkinin Goals, Nutrition, Self-Care0 commentstags: goal setting, habits, hydration
I’m working on my water consumption. I’ve been working on it for a while, and it’s the one thing that I consistently struggle with in terms of my nutrition habits. This may sound odd coming from a person who has drastically changed her eating habits over the past 10 years, but the food changes I’ve made – for whatever reason – have not been as much of a challenge for me as regularly getting enough liquid into my system. This is a little embarrassing to admit, given that proper hydration is crucial to a distance runner.

Being Graciousby Erica McClurkinin Exercise, Feelings, Self-Care0 commentstags: being human, imperfection, patience, stress management
The word gracious means “courteous, kind, and pleasant.” I’ve been struggling with being gracious this week. I’ve been struggling with being patient, too. It’s been one of those weeks where you just wish you were an irresponsible jane, and, instead, you’re gal wonder – making the magic happen and losing your sh*t in the process. This is not my favorite place to be. So I’m owning it and thinking about what I can learn from it.

A Change in Paceby Erica McClurkinin Exercise0 commentstags: getting started, happy running place, running, slowing down
This morning, I had the honor of serving as the 11-minute-mile pace group leader for a 4-mile kick-off run. Sometimes, it’s awesome to run fast and set a new record, but I have been taking it easy on the running front since my latest half marathon this past October. A run here, a run there – just for fun and to spend time with friends. In any case, I knew I’d be asking for trouble if I tried to pace the 9-minute-mile group, even though that’s pretty close to my regular running speed, so I asked for the 10 or 11 spot. The course was hilly, and the morning was a little rainy. No complaints here – it’s January in Cleveland, and at 48 degrees, it was beautiful running weather.

Happy 2016!by Erica McClurkinin Goals0 commentstags: 2016, goal setting, new year
Each new year brings with it a sense of unlimited possibilities. Part of my year-end ritual is to outline a list of goals and review the things I’ve achieved in the past year. Typically, I am amazed at how much I’ve accomplished, especially when my progress has been in a direction that I couldn’t have predicted a year earlier.
