by Erica McClurkinin Exercise, Goals0 commentstags: execution, fitness approach, goal setting, habits, priorities
Reserving time for fitness always seems so much easier on long weekends (and on vacations). At the beginning of any holiday period, I am always eager to fill my calendar with fun things as well as all of the unfinished projects that I’ve been working on.

Have you ever had the mail pile up? And then the pile is out of control and it keeps growing? You know that if you would just sort through it, you’d feel better because it would be dealt with…but you also know that now it’s going to take you three hours to go through it, and so you keep procrastinating. No? (Just me?) Okay…
by Erica McClurkinin Exercise, Goals0 commentstags: celebrate your wins, exercise benefits, goal setting, milestones
In the spirit of celebrating milestones, I’ve put together a list of 15 things K and I learned by taking daily walks together over the past five months. We concluded our walking streak on Saturday with day 150. Hopefully, you’ll appreciate these lessons and can apply those that speak to you to your own fitness routine.

Avocados are one of my favorite fruits. For the past few months, I have been making a lot of guacamole. Lately, I’ve been getting better and better at telling when my avocados are ripe. Despite making more guacamole in the past few months than I ever thought I would in such a short time, I still make mistakes and cut into one every so often when it’s not yet ripe. I’ve also missed the prime moment of ripeness and cut into many (many!) avocados that are starting to go bad or are not salvageable. At. All. (Yuck.)

As I was looking over my calendar for 2020 this past weekend, I thought about how we (humans) sometimes use arbitrary dates for setting goals. Though I love the promise of a blank calendar at the beginning of a year, I am not (usually) one to delay starting a new goal until a new month or year begins.

In my last post, I wrote about setting intentions and how powerful this process can be. I stand by this belief, though there is a second piece required in order to move forward: action. Intentions without actions are useless. In fact, intentions without action may not truly be intentions at all. Let this sink in for a moment. You can set intentions all day long, but if you recognize an opportunity and fail to act, you haven’t moved, changed, or grown as a result of setting the intention. Execution is where the true magic happens.
by Erica McClurkinin Goals, Nutrition, Self-Care0 commentstags: goal setting, habits, hydration
I’m working on my water consumption. I’ve been working on it for a while, and it’s the one thing that I consistently struggle with in terms of my nutrition habits. This may sound odd coming from a person who has drastically changed her eating habits over the past 10 years, but the food changes I’ve made – for whatever reason – have not been as much of a challenge for me as regularly getting enough liquid into my system. This is a little embarrassing to admit, given that proper hydration is crucial to a distance runner.
by Erica McClurkinin Goals0 commentstags: 2016, goal setting, new year
Each new year brings with it a sense of unlimited possibilities. Part of my year-end ritual is to outline a list of goals and review the things I’ve achieved in the past year. Typically, I am amazed at how much I’ve accomplished, especially when my progress has been in a direction that I couldn’t have predicted a year earlier.
