Rest and Invest

by Erica McClurkin in Exercise, Three Tips 0 comments tags: change, execution, fitness approach, rest days, running, taking action
I’ve been collecting running shirts since I started racing ten years ago, and it’s time to go through them and let some go. It seems like they multiply when you aren’t looking, though not so much over the past year or so…

Set a Timer and Go

I hope you had an excellent weekend! As we pass the middle of July, I’m thinking about ways to spend more time outside. It seems like the summer disappears quickly once we hit August, so I’m putting off the indoor projects right now and soaking up the sunshine. (I’m pretty sure the laundry can wait…)

Consistency, Technology, and Choice

Training season has started for this year’s fall races, and I’m thankful for the slightly cooler temperatures, even if the break in the heat is only temporary. K and I ran four miles in the rain yesterday, and we’re looking forward to getting back into a regular running routine over the coming weeks.

Block, Log, and Believe

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend! K and I spent much of Sunday at his mom’s house, and it was so nice to visit with family and friends for an afternoon cookout. Laughter filled the air for a good portion of our time together, and I realized just how much I have missed regular family gatherings. Cheers to celebrating!

Musings on Adaptability

by Erica McClurkin in Exercise, Goals, Self-Care 0 comments tags: adaptability, challenge, change, consistency, exercise benefits, fitness approach, fitness improvements, movement
The month of June has arrived and it’s hot. 🥵 We only just turned on the air again last Friday — after running a fan for a few evenings, we realized that the furnace was still set to heat, rather than to cool.

Have you ever set a fitness goal, achieved that goal, and then gone back to your previous not-as-active habits…even though you were hoping that the fitness goal would inspire an ongoing change in your exercise behavior?

An Outsized Return

Exercise is one of those activities that gives you an outsized return on your investment. When you spend time exercising, you experience benefits that are not necessarily contained in or confined to the time you are exercising.

Happy 2021! 🥳 The world is full of possibilities — today and every day — and, if we’re lucky, we just might have a bit more energy and motivation to accomplish our goals at this time of year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

by Erica McClurkin in Exercise, Self-Care 0 comments tags: change, clarity, gratitude, health, identity, movement, taking action, well-being
Thanksgiving week is here. 💕 Despite knowing our holiday celebration will be low-key this year, I’m excited about the upcoming four-day weekend with K and Scooter. There is the promise of cooking once and eating leftovers for days, sleeping in after watching holiday movies (with popcorn) late into the evening, and wrapping up some of the organizing projects that we’ve started.
